How to: Force AGRIS workstation to a specific station number

Setup the PSN environment variable with the desired value for 'Machine Id.'

  1. Right-click on My Computer - Properties - Advanced - Environment Variables

  2. Under System variables, click on 'New'

  3. Adjust the new variable:
              Variable name:  PSN
              Variable value:  (Machine_Name)*

  4. Click 'OK' three times to save the new setting

The next time AGRIS™ is launched, the station number will tie to the Machine Id you've defined.  If you referenced an existing Machine Id, then AGRIS will use a previously configured station number.  If you referenced a new Machine Id, then AGRIS will generate a new station number.

NOTE:  In AGRIS, workstations are primarily used to associate AGRIS sessions with related computer hardware/peripherals (printers, weigh scales, message boards, etc.).  Sometimes it may be desirable to force a new machine to use a workstation number that was previously used by an old computer in order to re-use it's existing configuration (primarily in oneWeigh environments).  It is also possible to use the PSN variable to create a brand new workstation that has nothing to do with an existing computer name or user ID.  To put it another way, you can set PSN to whatever you want it to be, and depending on your choice, AGRIS will either re-use an existing station or create a new one.

*The machine name is a unique identifier that AGRIS™ uses to determine station number assignments.  By default, it refers to the computer name (or user name if running in a Terminal Server or Citrix MetaFrame environment) that the AGRIS™ session is running on.  To find the current Machine ID, go to Customize > Workstations.  All known Machine Ids will be displayed and the current one will be highlighted.
