Error: Basic 70 Suddenly Appears on All Client Workstations

The ownership of AGRIS™ files and/or permissions to those files might not be valid. This may be related to file synchronization between the database server and client workstations.

Reset ownership of the files and/ or the permissions to those files.

In this scenario, permissions to the AGRIS folder is controlled by the Apps folder. Permissions on the Apps folder need to be reset.
Install directory = C:\Apps\AGRIS (usually C:\Apps\AGRIS or D:\Apps\AGRIS)

  1. On the server, double-click on My Computer - C: (or D:)

  2. Right-click on the Apps folder and select Properties

  3. Click the Security tab - Advanced button.

  4. Click the Owner tab

  5. Select Administrators and check the box Replace owner on subcontainers and objects

  6. Click Apply - OK

  7. Click on the Advanced button

  8. Click on the Permissions tab

  9. Select the user group that should have rights to the folder (typically Users, Domain Users, or AGRIS depending on how the system was originally configured)

10. Check the box Reset permissions on all child objects and enable propagation of inheritable permissions
11. Click Apply
12. Answer 'Yes' to the Do you wish to continue? message
13. Click OK - OK

AGRIS should now be working properly.

Comments

  • If a new version of AGRIS has just been installed, it may be necessary to reboot the database server and client machines to get around the Basic 70 error. The update process will generally prompt to reboot the server and if the option is chosen to restart at a later time, then the Basic 70 error can be encountered until the reboot occurs.

  • If the error is only on a single client machine, then the above resetting of permissions may help or a repair of the local install of AGRIS could be required.
