Error Message: Basic -2147221231 on a Single Machine

When accessing AGRIS the following error is encountered:

ERROR OCCURRRED IN PROGRAM SysSupport
ERROR NUMBER: BASIC #-2147221231 (SysSupport:bSysMenu:RunSelection)
ERROR MESSAGE: Automation error
ClassFactory cannot supply requested class NCSMNU.CLSSETUP< Server=><
INFORMATION: No additional information available for this error
RECOMMENDATION: Call AGRIS Customer Support, 800/366-2474

Reapply the hotfix (if one has been installed) or try reinstalling the AGRIS program.

The error can appear on machines where a software update (SU) did not correctly apply.  On Windows 7, Vista and 2008 machines, this can be caused by not right-clicking on the SETUP.EXE file associated with the SU and selecting "Run as administrator."  Please try re-running the SU again, making sure to right-click on SETUP.EXE and choosing "Run as administrator."  Also, be sure that the original zipped file containing the SU install files was unzipped prior to extracting the files.  If not, unblock the SU, extract the files again and then re-run the installation.

To unblock a downloaded file:

1. Right-click on the downloaded installation file and click Properties

2. At the bottom of the General tab, look for a button that says “Unblock”

a. If the button exists, click Unblock and then click OK

b. If the button does not exist, then click Cancel and continue with the installation as normal.

Once the install file has been unblocked, it should be run again.  Once the install is completed re-test the issue to ensure the issue has been corrected.

To reinstall AGRIS on the client workstation:

  1. Click Start - (Settings) - Control Panel - Add or Remove Programs

  2. Select AGRIS - Change/Remove

  3. Select the Reinstall option and click OK

  4. If this operation is successful and AGRIS operates correctly, stop here.

NOTE:  If a repair of the AGRIS install has been performed on a machine, be aware that the changes contained within the hotfix are no longer present and that the hotfix will need to be reapplied to that computer.

Comments

  • In a recent support issue we encountered this error after applying a hotfix. The hotfix did not properly take due to the non-standard AGRIS installation path used (C:\Program Files). We ended up having to manually apply the files contained in the hotfix (regsvr32 /u..., rename..., copy..., regsvr32...). We also had to run the UPDSUPPORT file manually with the following command: updsupport c:\progra~1\agrisDelete this comment

  • When installing a hotfix manually, on a 32-bit OS you would use the c:\windows\system32\regsvr32.exe and on a 64-bit OS you should use the c:\windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32.exe. If you are not sure if your system is 64-bit or not, if you don't find a c:\windows\SysWOW64 folder, then you are 32-Bit.
