Setup UOM that will be used for Dataset base UOM
Menu Path: GRN – Setup Information – Units Of Measure
At this point just setup the base unit of measure for the dataset. For example Pounds or Kilograms. This will be the base UOM to setup conversation factor to.
Menu Path: GRN – Setup Information – Ticket Information
Setup Unit of Measures - This is where the available Units of Measure will be setup.
Menu Path: GRN – Setup Information – Units of Measure
The Unit of Measure Code is shown on inquiries, and is available to print on forms and reports.
Unit of Measure Abbreviation and Description are available on forms and reports.
Unit of Measure Code is included in web service XML extracts.
Each unit of measure has a common (base) unit of measure, with a factor to convert between the two.
There will be one entry in the table per UOM code.
An example of the setup for Bushels:
Code BU
Abbreviation Bu
Description Bushels
Common UOM BU
Conversion Factor 1
With this setup the weight conversion for BU will be assigned separately for each commodity. (Step 4 in this document)
An alternate approach to setting up the Units of Measure would be to have one UOM Code = BU60 with the Common UOM = 60 LBS, and a second UOM Code = BU56 with the Common UOM = 56 LBS. In that example, both of the BU60 and BU56 codes could have the same abbreviation (Bu), and the same Description (Bushels).
Each Commodity Code will be assigned to one UOM Product Group Code, not to individual UOM Codes. A UOM Product Group provides the ability to group multiple allowable UOMs together, and then assign that group to the individual commodity codes/locations. This avoids redundant setup on multiple related commodity/location codes, by allowing you to specify the conversion factors once, and then assign the UOM Product Groups to the commodity codes.
Menu Path: GRN – Setup Information – Units of Measure – UOM Product Groups
Product Group Code
A 5 character code that you are able to specify when you Insert a new entry. This field is not open for modification when you are in the Edit (Select) mode. You will be able to specify the code in the Insert mode.
Group Description
This is a 25 character code that corresponds to the Product Group Code. It will automatically be set to be the same on all entries for the same Group Code. Example: if you selected the first CN entry and changed “Corn” to “Yellow Corn”, then the description for all 5 of the “CN” lines on the previous grid example will be set to “Yellow Corn”.
Allowable UOM
Choose from the list of UOM Codes. Each UOM that you choose for a particular Product Group Code instructs the system to “allow” that UOM to be used when working with any commodity/location that is assigned to the Product Group Code.
Trade UOM ?
Is this the default Trade UOM for this product group? Only one UOM within a group can be set to “Y”.
Position UOM ?
Is this the default UOM to use for position inquiry/reports? Only one UOM within a group can be set to “Y”.
Ledger UOM ?
Is this the UOM to use for updating General Ledger quantities? Only one UOM within a group can be set to “Y”.
