Manufacturing Stock

Overview

Use this job aid to manufacture stock. Stock manufacturing is the computerized process of assembling "finished" products from various components or ingredients. This process increases the quantity on hand of the finished product and decreases the on hand quantities of the components or ingredients. If the process is applied to an active manufacture order, the quantity on order box is reduced on the finished product and the quantity committed box is reduced on the components. Stock manufacturing can be used to assemble a finished product for later use. The finished product may be a part that will be used in another manufacturing process. The finished product can be a commodity that you are "bagging" for later sale or use. The manufacturing process may include service (labor) such as grinding and may create "by-products" that may be sold or used in other processes. Stock manufacturing generates a transaction type 3 record and updates the Quantity On Hand, Average Unit Cost, Recent Cost, and Value boxes. SJI reads the inventory transaction history file and records this type of transaction with a debit to the ledger account assigned to the IV code of the product category of the finished product and a credit to the ledger account assigned to the IV code of the product category of the components. Inventory is increased for the finished product and decreased for the component items.
