Introduction
This document contains the procedures for both new installations and upgrade installations of binSight. Procedures that pertain only to New Installations or only to Upgrade Installations are noted throughout with the terms NEW INSTALL: or UPGRADE: in the beginning of the heading.
Please follow these instructions carefully.
The installation procedures contained in this document assume that you already have set up one of the supported database management systems (DBMS) and that the database is functioning properly. You can use any of the following DBMS:
Actian Zen™ 14 (formerly known as “Pervasive® PSQL™“)
Microsoft® SQL ServerTM
binSight is available in a 32-bit version and a 64-bit version. The 64-bit version of binSight requires a 64-bit operating system.

NEW INSTALL: The binSight Database
After you have verified that your computer or computers meet the hardware and software requirements, and you have the database management system you plan to use, you’re ready to set up the binSight database. The following sections contain instructions for setting up the binSight database for each of the supported DBMS.
Important: You only need to create the binSight Database for new installations. If you are upgrading to the current version of binSight, you should skip this section.
Click the name of the DBMS you are using to move directly to the appropriate section:
Pervasive® PSQL™ or Actian ZenTM 14
Actian Zen™ (formerly “Pervasive® PSQL™”)
If you already use AGRIS in your agribusiness operation, you may already have an Actian Zen database server available to use. The following information will help guide you through creating a new binSight database on an Actian Zen server and then set up an administrator account for the binSight database.
If you are using the WorkGroup version of Actian Zen, please be aware that Cultura Technologies LLC recommends that the WorkGroup version is installed to run as a Service instead of as an Application. If you need assistance in determining how your WorkGroup is installed contact the Technical Assistance Center.
Creating the binSight Database
The first step to using binSight is to create a place to store your bin transactions and history. Complete the following procedure to create a binSight database on Actian Zen.
To create the binSight database folder:
Open Windows® Explorer:
For Windows® 10:
Right-click on the Start button and choose File Explorer
For all other supported operating systems:
Start >> (All) Programs >> Accessories >> Windows® Explorer
Expand the My Computer node on Windows® 8.1 or This PC on Windows® 10.
If you have more than one hard disk drive, select the letter for the drive, typically Local Disk (C:) or Local Disk (D:), where you want to create a binSight database folder.
Create a new folder, named apps. Right click on Windows® (C:)
New >> Folder – Type apps when the new folder appears.
Double-click the apps folder to open it.
Create a new folder under apps, named binSight. Right click in apps.
New >> Folder – Type binSight when the new folder appears.
Double-click the binSight folder to open it.
Create a new folder, named BinDB. Right click in binSight.
New >> Folder – Type BinDB when the new folder appears.
Close Windows® Explorer.
To create a new database:
Open the Actian Pervasive® Control Center:
For Windows® 10:
Start >> then “All Apps” >> then select “Actian PSQL 12, PSQL 13, or ZEN 14” and select PSQL Control Center & Documentation from the list.
For all other supported operating systems:
Start >> (All) Programs >> Pervasive ® >> PSQL >>Control Center & Documentation
In the left-hand frame, expand the Engines node.
Right-click the name of your server and select New Database.
Note: The server name is typically the Computer Name of the computer on which you are working.
Type BinDB in the Database Name field.
Type, or browse to, the binSight database folder.
<drive>:\apps\binSight\BinDB
Ensure that the following checkboxes are checked:
Create dictionary files (if they do not exist)
Relational integrity enforced
(DSN Options) Create Engine DSN
Click Finish.
Note: If you receive a prompt at this point requesting a username and password then there is a permissions problem with your installation of Actian Zen. If you are using the WorkGroup version of Actian Zen please verify that it is installed as a Service.
To enable security:
Right-click BinDB and select Properties.
Click Security.
Click the Enable Security option.
If you are using Pervasive version 13.0 or higher you need to select the “Enabled (Local database authentication)” option, see figure below.

Optional Integration Configuration
If you have purchased a license to use AGRIS v9.5.0 Service Pack 15 or later, and oneWeigh, you can integrate oneWeigh and binSight to communicate data with each other, making for a more robust commodity management environment. Use the following sections to establish a connection between oneWeigh and binSight and enable binSight to use oneWeigh Transfer Tickets.
Integrating binSight and oneWeigh
By default, binSight will use the gross quantity on tickets exported by oneWeigh. To configure binSight to use the net quantity on tickets exported by oneWeigh, please contact the Technical Assistance Center.
Setting Up binSight to Use oneWeigh Transfer Tickets
If you intend to transfer tickets through oneWeigh, perform this procedure prior to using binSight. The following sections guide you through setting up binSight to use oneWeigh transfer tickets.
Note: For the application to function properly while performing these setup tasks, you must first set the oneWeigh Ticket mode to Add.
Setting Up oneWeigh Extended Options
The first task you need to complete is to set up the extended options in AGRIS for oneWeigh to communicate with binSight. Complete the following steps to turn on the extended options.
To set up the oneWeigh extended options:
Start AGRIS.
Choose the dataset and location you want to use and click Select.
Type your User ID and Password.
Click Sign On.
Open the oneWeigh Extended Options window.
Maintenance >> Dataset Maintenance >> select a dataset >> Extended Options >> ONEType Y in the binSight Interface (#10) field.
Click Save.
Click Back.
Click OK.
Click Back.
Setting Up oneWeigh Workstation Options
Complete the following procedure to set up your oneWeigh workstation options for communicating data to binSight v3.2.8.
To set up the oneWeigh workstation options:
Start AGRIS.
Choose the default dataset and location you want to use and click Select.
Type your User ID and Password.
Click Sign On.
Open the Station – oneWeigh Scale Automation System window.
ONE >> Setup Information >> Workstation InformationClick the binSight Tab.
Check the binSight Integration option.
Ensure the URL value is correct:
http://localhost:8080/agris/services/BinManagement
Note: The localhost default only works when binSight and oneWeigh are installed on the same workstation. If the two applications are on separate workstations, you must change “localhost” to the name of the workstation on which binSight is installed and running.
To use the Bin Assignment on the Ticket Entry screen check, Enable Ticket Entry Bin Select AND Sizable Ticket Grid on the General Tab
It is recommended to check Suppress Inbound Reservations unless there are steel bins that are hard to measure
To use the Default Bin(s) per Commodity feature, check the Use Default Bins option.
If you can use the bulkWeigh feature to transfer grain around your facility using the bulkweigher, check the Allow Bin Transfers option.
Check Send Blank Grade Factors
If you are running binSight in multiple locations, click the name of the facility you want to associate with the current workstation in the Facility list.
Click Save.
Setting Up oneWeigh Workstation Defaults
The final piece to integrating oneWeigh and binSight is to set up the default grade factors sent from binSight to oneWeigh if desired. Complete the following steps to set up the workstation defaults.
To set up the oneWeigh workstation defaults:
Open the Station – oneWeigh Scale Automation System window.
ONE >> Setup Information >> Workstation InformationClick the Commodities/Discount tab.
Select a Default Outbound Grade Factors from Bin option.
Select the appropriate method for sending Average Grade Factors from binSight to oneWeigh Outbound Tickets, based on your intended system use:
Always (No Override) automatically sets the grades from binSight on each Outbound ticket.
Yes (Allow Override) asks, during each Outbound ticket, if you want to set the grades from binSight.
No does not send the average grade factors from binSight into oneWeigh.
Note: Both the Always and Yes options allow you to edit the default values before printing the ticket. Generally, this option is set to No.
Click Save.
