Inventory Item Reorder Points
Each inventory item has the ability to maintain Reorder Points and Overstock Points on the inventory balance screen in INV > Inventory > Item Maintenance.
The minimum (Reorder Point) and maximum (Overstock Point) inventory balances can be used to alert you to low (time to order) or high (time to investigate why) stock levels. These fields can be monitored using a standard inventory report to determine whether an item is over or under stocked. These values can also be changed throughout the season via View/Edit Inventory Item to meet requirements.
Reorder Point
the minimum balance of actual stock on hand
can be used in item status calculation fields to produce reports of all stock that is below the minimum balance
Reorder Units
optional entry
may be used with purchase orders for regular (type 4) items
value entered here defaults in the Order Qty box on purchase orders
for manufactured (type 3) or GRN manufactured (type 5) items, this value defaults in the Quantity to Make box in the stock manufacturing process
Overstock Point
the maximum balance of your actual stock on hand
can be used in item status calculation fields to produce reports of all stock that is above the maximum balance
Report
to see if an item is over or under stocked and determine when it is time to place an order, run the standard Inventory Over/Under Status Report:
INV > Report Manager > Inventory Status Reports > 5. Inventory Over/Under Status Report
Example
Fertilizer season is happening now. Ensure there is an appropriate amount of inventory for product 28% fertilizer:
If the number of units of 28% fertilizer is less than 50 tons, then place an order for 500 tons with supplier. Otherwise, do not order.
Reorder Point: 50 tons
Reorder Units: 500 tons
Overstock Point: 550 tons
