AGRIS Customer Documentation
Export any grid on a screen to a CSV spreadsheet (AGS-3467)
Benefits:
Minimize time and effort to share or analyze information in the system.
Details:
This new functionality allows the contents of any grid in AGRIS to be exported to a CSV file for importation into the users' favorite spreadsheet application.
Note: This functionality is not available in AgroGuide and oneWeigh specific grids.
Navigation to Use: Customize > System Security
There is a new security option under SYS > GENERAL OPTIONS called "GRID EXPORT TO SPREADSHEET".
This option enables or disables the Spreadsheet button. The default value is "NO" so the Spreadsheet button will be disabled (grayed out) everywhere it appears. The button will be enabled if this option is changed to "YES".
The button will appear above the upper right hand corner of the AGRIS grid. It will be present on every AGRIS grid with the exception of AgroGuide and OneWeigh specific grids which use a different mechanism for display.
This also applies to the Export to Excel buttons on the new style grids in Detail Ledger, Bank Reconcile, and Reclassify Multiple Prepayments For An Inventory Item.
CSV Creation
Clicking the Spreadsheet button generates a temporary CSV file and passes the instruction to open to the operating system. The operating system will attempt to open the CSV file in the default spreadsheet program the user has configured for files of type CSV, like Microsoft Excel or OpenOffice Calc. If no default application is defined, a prompt appears to choose the application.
The spreadsheet will contain all columns in the grid and will preserve the formatting for each data element.
The spreadsheet will contain all rows currently loaded into the grid. See Grid Contents for an explanation of how data is loaded into each grid.
The first row of the spreadsheet will contain the title of the grid if one is present.
If all rows /entries are not loaded into the grid, there will be a note explaining how to load the remaining data if desired. This will occur when clicking the "Yes" button on the "Data Grid Load" when a grid has more than 2,500 entries / rows. See the section below for more information.
There is a header row for the columns.
The data rows will generate.
Data Grid Load
In order to improve performance when viewing a large amount of data in a grid, AGRIS presents a "window" into the data defined by an index rather than loading the entire set. The default sort order for these grids is based on one of the indices. When using the spreadsheet button, AGRIS will try to load all records rather than just the "window." If there are more than 2500 records, the user will see the following message:
Clicking "Yes" creates a spreadsheet with the currently loaded records. It will not contain all the records requested. For instance, if there are 10,000 name ids in the system that the user is trying to load into the spreadsheet, clicking "Yes" will result in a spreadsheet containing only the first 2500 name ids. It is this case that leads to the note described above.
Clicking "No" creates a spreadsheet with the records using the complete set of data. This could take a significant amount of time depending on the amount of data available.
Clicking "Cancel" stops the spreadsheet generation and returns the user to the grid.
These indices are chosen based on the most common and useful orders for each set of data. They are not present for every set of data as each one consumes valuable system resources, memory, disk space, etc.
