DRS Communications Check [Quick Tip]

How to monitor data integrity issues between oneWeighs and Agris accounting, by ensuring DRS is functioning properly.

Changes Made to Setup or Workflow that Could Impact DRS from Functioning Properly:

  1. Changes are made to customer accounts that use 2 or more sites for dumping grain.

  2. Changes are transmitted to one site but failed to transmit to the 2nd site.

  3. During the “off” season, the customer only uses the site where the changes were transmitted.

  4. Harvest begins and the customer goes to the 2nd site and the account changes do not appear for several reasons:

    1. Computer was turned off

    2. Network changes

    3. Network failures

    4. Changes in the PC due to Windows updates

Consequences of DRS failure:

  1. Tickets may not be processed if this is a new account.

  2. Could create ticket rework if this is an existing account, but changes were made in the splits.

How to Monitor for DRS Failure:

  1. Manual Checking: Perform manual checking of the Communications Inquiry by going to Utilities > Data Replication Services > Communications Inquiry

  2. Setting up Email Alerts from the DRS for each site

Best practice is to have Manual Checking be a part of your daily routine if you do not have Email Alerts defined to ensure accuracy of DRS.

How to Perform Manual Checking of the DRS Communication

If not using email notifications, Manual Checking should be performed daily to ensure DRS is running to expectation.

From the Main Agris Screen on an Agris Accounting workstation select:

  1. Utilities

  2. Data Replication Services

3. Select Communications Inquiry

4. The following screen is displayed

Reading the Communication Inquiry screen:

  1. The only column to be concerned with is the “Late” column. The “Late” column shows how long in the past a successful transfer occurred; displayed in minutes.

  2. In the above example, Num 001 successfully processed names 1 minute ago. The other sites were 1310 minutes ago. There are 1440 minutes in a day, so you can use that number to do a quick calculation of when the last time a successful process ran.

Formula to calculate the number of days since last successful processing:

(Late value/1440 = number of days since last time successful)

As a best practice any site that is more than 10,080 minutes or 7 days should be investigated. The system will go back to the last time a successful process was completed, but the further back you go in time, the more chances of communications failures there are due to the amount of data to be processed.

How to Setup Automatic Email Notification

Configure DRS to email a specific person’s email address (or group email address) if there is a failure.

  1. Open DRS on the Agris Server and navigate to DRS Site Configuration

2. Select the First Site

3. Select Notification

4. Enter the email address you would like the notifications to be sent to for the first site

If you press:

  1. Save it will only notify Gordon.Craighton for this site and you make each site notify a different person.

  2. Save All – will have all sites notify Gordon Craighton if DRS fails.
