Creating a Field

Overview

Use this job aid to create a Farm in AgroGuide.

To create a Farm:

  1. From the Toolbar, select AGY for AgroGuide.

  2. From the AgroGuide menu, select AgroGuide

  3. Select a Client.

  4. Select the farm entity on the entity tree pane to which the field is to be added.

  5. On the Farm frame, click New Field to display a blank Field frame.

  6. Click the General Tab, if not already displayed.

  7. In the FSA Number box, type the Farm Service Agency number for the field.

  8. In the FSA Area box, type the assigned Farm Service Agency area for the field, including a unit of measure from the drop-down list. This area is used as the basis for participation in various government programs.

  9. In the Spatial Area box, type the area for the field. This can be different than the FSA area if the field has been measured both spatially and aerially. If using Mapping, this will fill in automatically, after the map has been setup.

  10. In the Section box, type the legal section number for the field.

  11. In the Range box, type the legal range of the field.

  12. In the Township box, type the name of the township (up to 30 characters) where the field is located.

  13. In the Parcel box, type the section subdivision of the field, if applicable. Note: The section, range, township, and parcel can be printed on field tickets supplied to the applicator.

  14. In the State box, type the 2-digit state abbreviation, or use the drop-down list to select a state code.

  15. In the County box, type the county name, or use the drop-down list to select a county from the list.

  16. In the Soil Texture box, use the drop-down list to select one of the texture options.

  17. In the Watershed box, use the drop-down list to select the watershed the applies to the farm. This information is for reference only in preparation for future enhancement.

  18. In the Longitude box, type the longitude location of the field, between  -180.00000000 and 180.00000000. This information is for reference only. If using Mapping, this will fill in automatically, after the map has been setup.

  19. In the Latitude box, type the latitude location of the field, between -90.00000000 and 90.00000000. This information is for reference only. If using Mapping, this will fill in automatically, after the map has been setup.

  20. Mark the Is Irrigated check box if the field is irrigated.

  21. Verify that the Is Active check box is marked, if the field is to be an active field for the farm.

  22. Completing the Legal/Notes Tab:

  23. Click the Legal/Notes tab to set up additional field information, if not already selected.

  24. In the Legal Description box, type the legal description for the field.

  25. For the purpose of generating reports that meet legal requirements, you must type all legal information in the box. Even if some of the legal information is already included in other boxes on the window, you need to retype the information in the Legal box.

  26. Enter the legal description for the location of your land. The legal description is found on the deed to the land or you can use the Public Land Survey System (PLSS). PLSS is used in legal descriptions and employs a grid system based on township, range, and section numbers. An example of a PLSS legal description: N 1/2 SE 1/4, SW 1/4, S24, T32N, R18E

  27. In the Notes box, type any internal company notes pertaining to the field.

  28. In the Print Comment box, type any information to be printed on sales orders, delivery tickets, and invoices pertaining to this field.

  29. Click Ok to save the field and exit from the window, or click Apply to save the field and remain on the AgroGuide Tree window. The field is now added to the tree under the selected farm. The icon next to the field identifies it as either active or inactive, as set up.

  30. You can also edit the existing field or inactivate a field.
