Adding a New Product Category
The product categories in AGRIS are the grouping code that the software uses to:
To post to the ledger
To control the Unit of Measures
To control how patronage is paid
To help in reporting
When a new code is setup in inventory, there is more to it than just adding a code. To complete the Product Category setup, you must also define the SJI System Accounts. AGRIS will provide an error message to remind you to setup the rest of the Product Category. This warning will be a message that “transaction codes are not found” during the “Create SJI Entry” process.
A. How to Add a New Product Category in INV
INV > Setup Information > Inventory Setup Options > Add/Edit Product Categories.
Key in your 2-character field for the code.
Remember to keep in mind sorting parameters for reporting.
Enter the description.
Enter the default Units-of-Measure.
Take note that your common UOM should always be GAL or LB or EACH.
Keep it simple.
B. How to Add a New Product Category in SJI
Go to SJI > System Accounts > ACR
Key in or search for product category.
Select the CS – Cost of Sales transaction Code
Post to the Cost of Goods Sold Expense Account.
Select the SL – Sales transaction Code
Post to the Sales Expense Account.
Go to SJI > System Accounts > INV
Key in or search for product category.
Select the IV – Inventory transaction code
Post to the Inventory Asset account.
Select the AJ – Adjustments transaction code
Post to the Cost of Goods Sold Expense Account.
Select the CA – Cost Adjustment transaction code
Post to the Cost of Goods Sold Expense Account.
Select the PC – Physical Count transaction code
Post to the Cost of Goods Sold Expense Account.
