Copy Dataset Best Practices

This article is primarily for those encountering problems when attempting to copy their live datasets in AGRIS. Often the failure is a result of processes that may be running at the time of the copy. AGRIS administrators should follow the steps below to help ensure the Copy Dataset process is successful. These steps require everyone to be out of AGRIS, not just out of the dataset that is being copied. Some of these steps may require assistance from your Server Admin. If you are not encountering problems when copying datasets, continue to follow the procedure you have been using.

1.

Stop all Report Streams or Scheduled Tasks used to run Report Streams on any machines they are running from.

2.

Ensure there are no Non-Greenstone applications/services running that would be accessing AGRIS data (i.e. Bushel Tunnel Service).

3.

Log onto the Database Server or server where AGRIS Server Components are running. Stop all Services accessing AGRIS data:

  • Cultura AGRIS CFT Integration Service

  • Cultura AGRIS SYS Dashboard Service

  • Cultura AGY Auto Control Service

  • Cultura AGY Blender Service

  • Cultura iView Agent (no longer used) - can stop, disable or remove permanently

  • Agris-PSQL Agent Web Services

  • Agris-PSQL Agent Web Services_2

  • Agris-SQL Agent Web Services

  • Agris-SQL Agent Web Services_2

4.

Shutdown and Disable the AGRIS COM+ Applications. Component Services My Computer COM+ Applications

Perform the following actions on each of these applications

  • Actions: Right click Shutdown, then Right click Disable

  • Applications: AGRIS_ABS, AGRIS_Agronomy, AGRIS_ServerLock

  • Note: if you receive errors shutting down any of these applications, you can End Task on them via the Task Manager. Look for the dllhost.exe processes with the user credential set when AGRIS was installed (i.e. services). These processes can be ended in this step.

5.

Ensure that Virus scanning tools/Data backup tools are not processing the Datasets folder or any of its subfolders during the time of the Copy Dataset.
