Initial Mapping Setup

When using AgroGuide for the first time or updating an older dataset, you may see the following informational message:

This means that there are several steps that need to be taken in order to prepare the map for ortho imagery and spatial operations. There are three separate screens that help create this parameter file to customize the map experience and they can be found in Setup -> Mapping.  You may download Digital Ortho Imagery files for your counties from the Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) GEOSPATIAL DATA site.  (See below)

See below for an explanation for each form.

Table of Contents

Co-Ordinate System

Set up the co-ordinate system for the mapping engine. The following selections are available for datum types:

  • NAD27 (North American Datum 1927)
  • NAD83 (North American Datum 1983)
  • WGS84 (World Geodetic System 1984)

You can then select from several geographic zones. All datum types will feature several UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator) zones and may offer additional zones depending on the datum selected.

Upon selection, you can also see the corresponding EPSG (European Petroleum Survey Group) code. If you know what value it should be, you can use this to confirm the correct datum has been selected.

Ortho Image Manager

Import, create, or modify ortho image configurations in this manager.

Projection Manager

Select the configurations and file types to be used within AgroGuide.

With Agris 17.1.0 and newer you can select Bing Maps in addition to SID and ECW as the source for the orthoimagery.  Click here for more information.

Select the Ortho NAIP for your county background image.  The most recent year is best.

Download and unzip into the new Ortho Image Manager county folder.

Note

If you try to open the Projection Manager and receive an error that says, "Active projection configuration contains invalid EPSG number," then, when you are returned to the main AgroGuide screen, go to Co-Ordinate System. After configuring a datum, you should now be able to use the Projection Manager.

The supported Ortho File Types include SID (Seamless Image Database) and ECW (Enhanced Compression Wavelet). Upon selecting one of these file types, you can select from ortho image sources previously set that use that file format.

Finally, you can select different display options for the map, customizing what is seen in the map view.
