Basic -2147467225 error launching AGRIS from client

Client workstations encounter a Basic 2147467225 (Automation error:  The component or application containing the component has been disabled) when attempting to launch AGRIS, especially if connecting to a new AGRIS database server.  This is because Enable Network COM+ Access has not been setup on the database server.  It is important to note that the steps shown below need to be completed on the AGRIS component server, which for the vast majority of environments, is the AGRIS database server itself.  Please complete the steps below to resolve the issue:  

 

Windows Server 2016, 2019 and 2022 component servers:

  1. Open Regedit.

  2. Go to the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\COM3

  3. Change the value of RemoteAccessEnabled to 1.

 

Windows Server 2012 R2 component servers:

  1. On the Component Server, typically the database server, click Start and type “Server Manager”, then click on the Server Manager.

  2. Click on the Local Server in the selection tree.

  3. Scroll down to the ROLES AND FEATURES section

  4. In the TASKS dropdown, select Add Roles and Features

  5. On the Before you begin step, click Next

  6. On the Select installation type step, select Role-based or feature-based installation and click Next

  7. On the Select destination server step, ensure your server is selected and click Next

  8. On the Server Roles step, expand the Application Server option, checkmark COM+ Network Access, and click Next

  9. On the Features step, click Next

  10. On the Confirmation step, click Install

  11. Once the installation is complete, click Close to close the Add Roles and Features Wizard.

 

Windows Server 2008 component servers:

 

  1. Login to the console of the component server (typically the AGRIS database server itself).

  2. Click Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features.

  3. Click on Turn Windows features on or off on the upper left side of the screen.  

  4. If the User Account Control window appears, click Continue.

  5. Click Roles on the upper left side of the window.

  6. Click the Add Roles link to in the upper right part of the window.

  7. Click Next on the new window that appears.  

  8. Check the Application Server box and click Next. 

  9. Click Next on the Application Server screen.

  10. Click Install at the Confirm Installation Selections screen.

  11. Check the COM+ Network Access box and click Next.

  12. Click Next at the Confirm Installation Selections page to begin the installation process.

  13. Click Close at the Installation Results window.
